Serving Love and Compassion, One Taco at a Time!

"True spirituality is compassion in action—it begins and culminates in compassion. If we could transform compassion from a mere word into a path of action, we would be able to solve 90% of the world's humanitarian problems." ~ Amma
What happens when love and compassion meets action? A kitchen filled with warmth, laughter, and 81 delicious tacos! MA Center Michigan volunteers rolled up their sleeves to serve a hearty meal to 65 residents at Alpha House, a local shelter supporting families experiencing homelessness. As part of the Winter Weather Amnesty Program, Alpha House extends its services to additional families in need during the harsh winter months, and volunteers lovingly stepped up to help.
With love and dedication, the team assembled 81 soft tacos filled with seasoned veggie crumbles, nacho cheese, and spices, alongside Spanish rice and an assortment of cupcakes to complete the meal. But beyond the flavors, each dish carried a deeper meaning.
For Shreeja Rucker, this act of service was a tribute to her father’s memory on his death anniversary. For Raji Sankaran, it was a joyful way to celebrate her son’s birthday. Whether as an expression of gratitude, a way to mark a special occasion, or simply a gesture of kindness, serving others becomes a celebration in itself.
Nalayani Kogulan, a dedicated volunteer, reflected on the experience:
"Cooking for Alpha House is becoming more meaningful because we are cooking as a part of a community."
Once preparing meals in the quiet of her own kitchen, Nalayani now finds joy in cooking alongside others, knowing their collective effort brings warmth and nourishment to those in need.
Through Mother’s Kitchen, compassion is no longer just a word—it’s a meal, a connection, and a reminder that small acts of kindness can change lives. As Amma’s words remind us, when we turn compassion into action, we hold the power to heal the world—one meal at a time.
