Socks, Jackets & Coats for the Homeless

MA Center New England has been donating socks to local homeless shelters since 2014. Last year—thanks to your generosity—we were able to donate 946 pairs of new tube socks to the Amos House Shelter in Providence, Rhode Island. As the cold New England weather settles in once again, we are renewing the Embracing the World Socks for the Homeless Project for 2025–2026. For people experiencing homelessness, especially those living unsheltered on the streets, thick, cushioned socks are essential for foot health and basic comfort.
This year, we are expanding our efforts to include a winter coat and jacket drive (adult sizes only). Through my volunteer work with Shower to Empower, a mobile shower unit run by Rhode Island’s House of Hope, I have witnessed firsthand how difficult it is to endure winter without proper outerwear. Many people who are unhoused or relying on the shelter system simply cannot afford warm coats. What they do have is often worn out, leaving them cold, exposed, and at risk.
How to Donate
• Socks:
Pranata will be collecting monetary donations at satsangs. Please remember our homeless brothers and sisters who are suffering, and give as you are able.
- Cash or checks are accepted.
- At this time, we do not have electronic or credit card options.
- If donating by check, please make it out to MA Center and write “socks for homeless” in the memo line.
Pranata has sourced high-quality, cost-effective socks and will purchase them on your behalf, delivering them to Amos House throughout the winter and early spring. Please do not bring sock donations, as specific types have been identified as optimal.
• Adult Winter Coats and Jackets:
Please bring clean, gently worn adult winter coats and jackets to satsang. (Unfortunately, soiled or heavily worn items cannot be accepted.) Pranata will distribute the donated outerwear to individuals visiting the Shower to Empower mobile unit throughout the winter and into early spring
Please show your love and compassion through your generosity.
Thank you!
