Sep 26: Farm Harvest Day for Viswa Seva Dinam

For Vishwa Seva Dinam — A Day of Selfless Service in honour of Amma's 73rd birthday— Amma's Toronto Satsang organized a Farm Harvest Day on Saturday, September 26 at Amma Canada Farms.

What brings her the deepest joy is to see her children reach out to those who are suffering, the poor, the forgotten, the ones waiting for a kind hand.

Food bank use in the Greater Toronto Area has risen 273% since before the pandemic, and in 2023 about one in five households in Peel and York Region experienced food insecurity. Amma's Toronto Satsang tried to address this need by harvesting fruits and vegetables grown at the Farm, packing them and delivering them to local food banks. Over the next couple of days, volunteers delivered 138 lbs of apples, and 58 lbs of vegetables, including tomatoes, Swiss chard, Malabar spinach and eggplant to food banks.

These donations represent a tiny fraction of the total amount of food Amma Canada has donated so far this season. Since late June, volunteers have been delivering produce to food banks every few days. To date, Amma Canada Farms has donated over one ton (2600 lbs) of vegetables and fruits to food banks across the GTA. This has been a true labour of love for the dedicated Farm volunteers.

There is still a lot of harvesting left to do, particularly in the orchard. With your help, Amma Canada Farms can perhaps donate two tons of produce! Email ammatoronto@ammagroups.org to learn how you can help.
