Love the poor wholeheartedly. Go to their level. Believe that it is your dharma - your duty - to love and serve the poor.” ~ Amma

Amma’s Toronto volunteers, as part of North America’s Mothers Kitchen, gathered in the Amma Canada Centre kitchen on Friday, July 17 to prepare seven pots of delicious vegetarian chilli. Volunteers carefully washed and chopped veggies, including zucchini from the Amma Canada's vegetable garden, before adding cans of chick peas, kidney beans and tomatoes. Under the guidance of our lead cook, Mohan, the carefully cooked and seasoned chilli was transferred to timed crockpots and allowed to simmer overnight, giving the flavours time to develop to the fullest. Early Saturday morning, volunteers transported the crock pots of chilli to Georgetown Bread Basket (GBB) to serve to their clients.

Our first time servers, Athira and Sambhu, accompanied Mahita to GBB, where they happily distributed approximately 70 servings of chilli to families, seniors, and individuals. It was a busy and fun seva. GBB staff thanked Amma volunteers for their time, effort and generosity. We have an open invitation to serve chilli at GBB whenever we are available! If you would like to join us to prepare the next batch of chilli or help transport and serve it, please contact Mahita or Nandini Melody or email ammatoronto@ammagroups.org  Stay tuned for info on our next chilli seva dates!
