Farming Seva - Sep 27

Brian & Supriya with boxes of apples

Apple picking continues this Saturday

A huge thanks to all who came to help with the apple harvest on Saturday, September 20 and also to the kitchen crew for the fabulous lunch they prepared. We harvested almost 2,000 lbs of apple. The Orchard Team has been busy this week sorting them into grades A and B. Many of the apples that were picked are of the Wealthy variety. This heirloom apple is excellent for fresh eating, cooking, and baking. It has scarlet skin and firm flesh, with a distinctive sweet and tangy flavour, with a hint of strawberry. Amma Canada is offering 10 lbs of these apples for $25, an excellent deal. The fruit will keep in the fridge for months, and sweetens further over time. The Orchard Team won't be harvesting any more Wealthy apples this year, so get them while you can! They will be available for sale, together with veggies from the garden this Saturday, September 27 from 11 AM - 4 PM.

Farm Seva will continue this Saturday from 10 AM - 4 PM with more apple picking & sorting, as well as veggie harvesting and grounds maintenance. Feel free to join for any amount of time. If you will be having lunch with us, please let Pauline know by Friday morning.

Sundance Commons is hosting a free fruit harvesting workshop in the Amma Canada orchard on Sunday, October 5 from 10 AM - 12 PM. All are welcome to join the workshop, and learn when and how to harvest cherries, peaches, apples and pears, as well as how to handle and store them. The workshop will be followed by a free lunch, and more apple harvesting until 3 PM. If you would like to join, kindly fill out this Google Form. Carpooling will be arranged. If you have any questions, please ask Brian or email ammatoronto@ammagroups.org.
