Serving with Love: Monthly Meals at Covenant House Georgia

On March 8th, sevites from M.A.Center Atlanta came together to prepare and serve a nourishing hot lunch for the youth at Covenant House, Georgia. A heartfelt thank you to each and every sevite whose time, effort, and kindness made this offering possible.

Each month, 4 to 6 dedicated volunteers gather to prepare a wholesome vegetarian meal for approximately 60 young people, ages 18 to 21, residing at the shelter. The menu is thoughtfully crafted to be balanced and nourishing, with an emphasis on fresh vegetables, lentils or beans for plant-based protein, and seasonal fruits for dessert.

Our service begins at 8:00 AM on the first Sunday of every month, when we meet at the ashram kitchen to begin cooking. The morning is always filled with activity—there’s plenty to do, and the time passes quickly in the spirit of seva. By 10:45 AM, the meal is ready and is promptly delivered to the shelter to be served at noon.

The youth and staff at Covenant House are always warm and welcoming. On March 30th, the meals coordinator shared this touching feedback:

“The kids wait for a freshly cooked meal filled with taste… they become quite tired of bland meals, fried food, and cold sandwiches. They appreciate the fresh salads and fruits. Many even say, ‘This is so good—maybe I should become a vegetarian!’ Of course, we know it’s not always easy for them, but that says a lot. So thank you very much!”

These monthly meals are more than just food—they are an expression of compassion, community, and the joy of giving. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve, and we look forward to continuing this tradition of love in action.
