Thaipusam Satsang

(Yearly event) Jan 27, 2024 to Feb 07, 2026 (ended)

Thaipusam is dedicated to the Hindu god Murugan, the son of Shiva and Parvati. Murugan is also known as Kartikeya, Subramaniam, Sanmukha, Shadanana, Skanda, and Guha. It is believed that on this day, Goddess Parvati presented a lance to Lord Murugan to help him vanquish the demon army of Tarakasura and put an end to their evil deeds. Thaipusam is celebrated to commemorate victory over evil. This vibrant festival symbolizes courage, devotion, and the triumph of light over darkness.

Join us for a day of community and devotion at MA Center Chicago featuring a Muruga puja and Muruga bhajans. Satsang will begin at 4:00 pm with archana (chanting the divine names).  Here's the full schedule (subject to change):

4:00 pm - Archana (chanting of the divine names)
5:00 pm - Presentation about Thaipusam
5:20 pm - Murugan Thaipsuam satsang
5:30 pm - Thaipusam procession
6:00 pm - Abhishekam and puja, followed by bhajans, arati, meditation, closing prayers, and prasad

After satsang, a delicious vegetarian meal will be available for a modest donation.
