Ganesh Chaturthi (also known as Vināyaka Chaturthi, Gaṇēśa Chaturthī, or Vināyaka Chaviti) signifies and honors the holy birth of Lord Ganesh, the elephant-headed god. Celebrated for 10 days, it is observed this year from September 13 through 23. The festival celebrates Lord Ganesh as the god of New Beginnings and the Remover of Obstacles as well as the god of wisdom and intelligence.
