Local member of parliament tours Amma Canada Farms

On July 25, the Member of Parliament for Milton East—Halton Hills South visited Amma Canada Farms. MP Dirksen got a full tour of the vegetable garden, the bee hives, and the orchard, and was extremely impressed with the work Amma Canada is doing on the farm and in the community. She posted on her social media:

"Amma Canada is a local charity of 30+ volunteers, dedicated to ensuring that fresh produce is accessible to all Canadians. From vegetable crops to beehives to orchards, their facility on Trafalgar Road serves several food programs, donating 70% of their produce to charities. It was wonderful to be invited to tour their facility and discuss the importance of our government’s role in supporting these organizations.

This year, Amma Canada received grants for two student jobs through the Canada Summer Jobs program and the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy. These jobs allow Amma to better support their everyday operations and outreach, maintenance, and volunteer coordination. Thank you to Amma Canada for your continued service and gracious hospitality!"

MP Dirksen presented certificates or recognition to Amma Canada, and to Claire and Mason, the two local youth hired to work at the farm this summer through federal grants. Amma Canada looks forward to ongoing collaboration with MP Dirksen, so that we may use support from the federal government to enhance our mission.
