Farming Seva - Aug 9

Volunteers picking peaches

Peaches available this weekend only

Last Saturday, a group of five satsang members joined for the pruning workshop offered by the Amma Canada orchard team. Everyone got to learn about the history of the orchard from those who helped plant the trees fifteen years ago. Participants asked excellent questions about when and how to prune fruit trees to keep them healthy and facilitate harvesting. Lively discussions about tree communication and plant intelligence followed. Everyone received hands on training on pruning with the pruning shears, long-handled loppers, or pruning saw, along with individual feedback from the instructor. Participants expressed a desire for more such workshops in the future. The next orchard workshop will take place in late September and will be focussed on fruit harvesting. Stay tuned!

We are starting to enjoy the fruits of our labour! In the veggie garden we have kale, Swiss chard, green and yellow beans, lauki, tomatoes, and Malabar spinach ready to harvest. The orchard has offered us a few peaches and a promise of summer pears and apples to come in the following weeks. The bees remain busy collecting nectar and pollen. Farming seva continues  Saturday, August 9 with all the usual activities - weeding, pruning, harvesting and enjoying Amma’s Presence in the great outdoors. You can join in anytime between 10 AM and 4 PM. A light lunch will be served. Please let Pauline know by Friday, August 8 at noon, if you will be joining the team for lunch.

Farm produce will be available for purchase this Saturday from 11 AM - 4 PM, selling the above mentioned vegetables and fresh peaches. There are only a couple peach trees in the orchard and they rarely bear fruit, so this is very special harvest. If you would like some peaches, please get them this weekend, because when they are gone, they are gone! If you have any questions, please ask Brian or email ammatoronto@ammagroups.org.
