Farm Update: Spring Planting and Moving the Beehives

Spring has sprung at Amma Canada Farms
Spring has arrived at Amma Canada Farms. Planting and beekeeping season has begun! Amma Canada Farms welcomed two new hives last Saturday. As the dandelions and other early Spring flowers peek through, bees are beginning the hard work of pollinating our gardens, orchards, and wild spaces. Amma Canada is seeking a volunteer or two to assist the main beekeeper with hands-on visits to the hives. Visits may happen on a weekday basis, as well as on the occasional Saturday. General knowledge of honey bees is helpful. Hands-on training will be provided. For further information, please contact Pauline or email ammatoronto@ammagroups.org

This year, Amma Canada Farms is moving the vegetable garden to a new location, to allow the soil in the past location to rest. This has meant lots of extra work for the veggie garden team this season: tilling uncultivated land and creating new raised beds. Last Saturday, with the help of many volunteers, planting finally began in the veggie garden! Bed prep and planting will continue this Saturday, May 23 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Please drop in and lend a hand for any length of time. Kindly bring closed toe shoes and garden gloves. Lunch will be provided. Kindly let Pauline know by Friday if you will be joining for lunch, or if you would like to bring a dish to share. For more information, please email ammatoronto@ammagroups.org
