GreenFriends

Fairfield now has a GreenFriends chapter! GreenFriends volunteers are growing organic vegetables to help feed people in need within the community. The garden is on an allotment provided by Fairfield Community Garden (FCG) for the 2026 growing year. All of the produce is being donated to two local non-profit organizations, Golden Magnolia Sanctuary’s Stone Soup Kitchen and the Lord’s Cupboard. Because space is limited, the garden incorporates square foot gardening and succession planting. This maximizes the amount of harvest so that more families can be served.
Volunteers also work with FCG to maintain an edible herb and pollinator-friendly plot within the community garden. They started hundreds of Tulsi seedlings, some for that plot and the rest to distribute throughout the community. Feedback from gardeners is that bees love the Tulsi!
