Journey to Om Music Retreat

East Meets West is an immersive retreat that explores the musical intersections between bhajans, meditation and music of all cultures. Adults of all abilities and interests are welcome. This two day retreat will include delicious vegetarian meals, and will offer chances for participants to work closely with instructions of a variety instruments and disciplines.

Topics will include:

* Foundation of Indian Classical Music: Raga & Sruti
* Western Music: Chords & Scale
* Rhythmic Patterns Through the Lens of Eastern and Western Styles
* Application of Ragas and Chords in Bhajans
* Deepen Your Knowledge of Bhajans & Kirtans   
* Experiential Learning through Performance with Group
* Sound Meditations
* Mindfulness Practice: Essence of Improvisation
* Expressive Singing and Playing

Food

Enjoy a tasty vegetarian lunch both days. On Saturday, a delicious vegetarian dinner will be served. Light refreshments, coffee, and tea will be offered throughout the days. Vegan and gluten-free options will be available.

How can I get updates on this retreat?

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Yes. This retreat is generally for ages 18 & up. If there are any participants under the age of 18 who would like to attend, please send a direct email to the organizers to discuss options.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There is plentiful free parking onsite. The closest BART station is Castro Valley BART Station and from there you can UBER or LYFT.

What should I bring into the event?
Bring your singing voice, musical instrument, an amplifier for electric instruments, and an open heart and mind. There is a gift shop with books, instruments, and clothing, as well as a farm stand with fresh and dried fruits from the MA Center’s orchards.

Do I need to know how to play or sing?
We welcome singers and musicians of all levels. Absolutely no experience is needed.

What's the refund policy?
You must cancel by 9:30AM on Friday January 26th, 2018 to receive a full refund. No partial or full refunds will be accepted after that.

All are welcome to join the ashram residents for daily spiritual practices in the Main House puja room:

Morning Archana

Monday-Saturday: 5 AM
Sunday: 6 AM

Evening Bhajans

Sunday - Friday: 7 PM
If there is no Saturday program in the temple hall, bhajans are in the Main House at 7 PM.

Directions

The Main House is on the hill above the temple hall. When you arrive at MA Center,  turn right and cross over the small bridge. Use the call box on your left just before the outer gate to communicate that you need the gate opened to drive through. Then follow the road past the temple. The road continues on the right next to the temple gate, then curves left up the hill to the Main House. The puja room is just inside the front door to the house.
