Charitable Programs

Inspired by Amma’s selfless example of giving and serving those in need, Toronto Satsang volunteers take part in charitable activities all year round. Recent highlights:

Chilli serving in Georgetown & downtown Toronto. Volunteers gather in the Amma Canada Centre kitchen on Friday evenings to chop and prepare homemade vegetarian chilli; after cooking overnight, crock pots go to Georgetown Bread Basket, serving over 30 families and individuals in need. Volunteers have also assisted at the St. Felix Centre in downtown Toronto, preparing and plating a vegetarian chilli lunch for over 150 people.

Cookie baking. Over 1,500 cookies and muffins baked each year — around Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas — and delivered to St. Felix Centre’s Parkdale shelter.

Food Rescue project. Every Saturday, volunteers collect surplus fresh bread, frozen goods and staples from Georgetown Bread Basket and distribute them to food-security programs across the GTA — over 10,000 lbs a year to partners including Knights’ Table, Feed Scarborough, Beeton Cupboard, Fort York Food Bank and Agincourt Food Bank.

Care packages. To honour Amma’s 70th birthday, volunteers assembled 70 winter care packages — socks, gloves, toque, scarf and shirts, plus an apple from the Amma Canada orchard — for clients of Dixon Hall’s 24-hour respite centre.

Holiday giving. For nine years and counting, Amma Canada has partnered with Halton’s Links2Care to sponsor families in need over the holidays, and volunteers bring wrapped gifts and handmade cards — crafted by the Bala Kendra children and satsang youth — to seniors at Bennett Centre Long Term Care in Georgetown.

Volunteers are always welcome! Contact ammatoronto@ammagroups.org to take part.
