In place of a grand festival, the day is given back to the world: free surgeries and children's heart camps, relief for families struck by floods and loss, weddings for couples who could not otherwise afford them, cleanliness drives, and prayers for peace.

It is a wish Amma has expressed many times. 

It was a gathering in honour of two embodiments of compassion and selfless service. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, a renowned scientist born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, was known as a "People's President" when he held office from 2002 to 2007. Amma is known worldwide as an ocean of love.

The two remained close until Dr Kalam's passing in 2015, beginning with initiatives for impoverished people in the Rameswaram district. Rising above boundaries of caste, creed, and gender, they joined hands to uplift those who were struggling, a vision which continues to spread its light.

During her program in Chartres, France, Amma graciously accepted the Kékéli Peace Prize — a civil society award connected with the World Day for African and Afro-Descendant Culture, a UNESCO-declared international day supported by its 193 member states. It was founded by Mr. John Ayite Dossavi of Togo, who thanked Amma “for the attention you are giving to Africa, which is our common cradle.”

On December 25, 2024, the Amritapuri Ashram came alive with the spirit of Christmas as Amma's devotees and international visitors from around the world gathered to celebrate. The evening's cultural program included a skit on discovering the true meaning of Christmas, the "Wave Dance" symbolizing the journey from individual to infinite consciousness, a Bharatanatyam performance honoring Lord Vishnu, and a clown act titled "Doors Fully Open" about love overcoming every obstacle.

Amma’s Birthday is a celebration of unconditional love and selfless service. Anyone who has met Amma knows that she embodies all that she teaches — her life itself is her message.

Communities across North America mark the occasion each year with special programs of devotional singing, meditation, and charitable service.
