The Burrito Project

The Burrito Project
The Santa Fe ashram opened in 1996. Inspired by Amma’s teachings of selfless service, the residents began the Burrito Project. This was in response to the growing need for more food resources for the homeless and underserved communities in Santa Fe.
108 burrito lunches were with the distribution of lunches initially starting at parks and churches, and then moving to an interfaith and city-sponsored shelter. More recently, Burrito Project moved its distribution to two Interfaith shelters - one housing families and people in transitional homeless situations, and the other housing homeless seniors.
We have over 30 volunteers, who either work as part of the Sunday morning kitchen and delivery crew, or who work behind the scenes shopping for the lunches and picking up tortilla donations.
- The burrito project solely relies on donations to keep it going.
- The Burrito Project (BP): The weekly food distribution project serving the people of Santa Fe.
- The BP meets weekly, every Sunday morning from 8:30 am to 11:00 am.
- The BP provides homemade burritos along with a sack lunch of a banana, juice, chips, and cookies.
- BP volunteers can sign up to be on a schedule or be a back-up volunteer.
- There are many different volunteer positions within the BP: shopper for supplies, pick up donated tortillas, kitchen crew and delivery crew. Kitchen crew tasks are rotated among the volunteers.
