On Saturday, October 6th, 2018, Amma's Atlanta satsang honored Amma's 65th birthday with a special seva for Mother Earth, joining the Rivers Alive organization for another year of their annual clean-up along the waterways. Rivers Alive was delighted that a well-attended group of Amma's Georgia satsang came committed to serve.
Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on an unusually hot October morning, volunteers formed several groups to cover a wide area. There was a surprising amount of trash to collect — even a small group of two adults and two teenagers picked up almost 60 pounds along the roadside and around the river, about half of it recyclable.
The collective amount collected was over 200 pounds. The mayor gave a speech expressing appreciation for the volunteers' participation year after year. It was heartwarming to see the impact of the day — and the group even discussed new ways to raise funds for Amma's charities, such as Mother's Kitchen.
