Food Drive: Viswa Seva Dinam

Food Drive for Viswa Seva Dinam
Swami Amritaswarupananda wrote to all of Amma's ashrams and satsangs:
"On 27 September, 2026, we will gather at Amritapuri to celebrate Amma's 73rd birthday. Yet Amma's own wish is that this day be remembered not for its festivity alone. What brings her the deepest joy is to see her children reach out to those who are suffering, the poor, the forgotten, the ones waiting for a kind hand. In this spirit, we have named this year's celebration Vishwa Seva Dinam - 'A Day of Selfless Service.' Let us offer Amma the gift she truly treasures, and let our hands become an extension of her compassion in the world."
In this spirit, Amma's Toronto Satsang is organizing four service initiatives during the weekend of September 25-27 to celebrate Amma's birthday in the way she wishes: by serving the world. One of these initiatives is a non-perishable food drive. Food bank usage in Toronto has surged 273% since before the pandemic. In 2023, around 1 in 5 households in Peel and York Region experienced food insecurity. On Saturday, September 26, you can help individuals and families facing hunger by dropping off some of the most requested non-perishable foods, like canned vegetables, oatmeal and nut butters, into the collection boxes at the back of the hall in the Amma Canada Centre. Deadline to donate is Sunday, October 4. Thank you for helping Amma's birthday wish come true! For more information, contact Mahita or Nandini Melody, or email ammatoronto@ammagroups.org
