Planting for the Future

Embracing the Trees is an initiative of GreenFriends North America, born in 2021 in response to Amma's call for more trees to be planted all over the world — for monthly goals, special occasions and the UN's Trillion Trees Campaign. The New England branch formed in the fall of 2021 and set to work building a database of tree-planting organizations across the region.
Roots in New England
The team's first community planting came in May 2022, when nine arborvitae trees were planted in Redding, Connecticut to create a living privacy screen — followed by an outdoor satsang. Devotees have since planted fruit and shade trees in Northampton, Massachusetts and northern Vermont, and in June 2023 the group hosted a Nature & Yoga Day retreat in Massachusetts with Swamini Ambikamrita Prana, publishing a regional planting guide with species recommendations.
