GreenFriends is an international environmental initiative of Embracing the World, established in 2001. It promotes environmental awareness through simple, volunteer-based action — encouraging everyone to "take care of at least one plant" as a practical expression of selfless love for the natural world, so that all life-forms may live in harmony upon the Earth.
Fostering Tulasi Plants
Thank you to all the devotees who came forward to foster a Tulasi or another plant. GreenFriends hopes to bring each fostered plant to Amma for her personal blessing, to be distributed during her next visit to Southern California — may your love for Amma be expressed through the care you give your foster plant.
GreenFriends is still looking for sevites to foster Tulasi plants until December. No amount is too small, as long as the plants are watered routinely and taken inside during cold weather. The ancient scriptures say, "Tulasi is auspicious in all respects." To foster a few Tulasi plants as an offering to Amma, contact Charles at gf@la.macenters.org.
Beach Cleanups
GreenFriends LA and AYUDH regularly join Heal the Bay for beach cleanups along the Los Angeles coast — from Santa Monica Beach to World Cleanup Day at Mother's Beach in Marina del Rey. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to help keep our shoreline and ocean healthy.
The GreenFriends Table
At satsangs and events, the GreenFriends table shares homegrown plants, fruits and vegetables with the community — guava, dragon fruit, succulents, aloe vera, sage, mint, moringa, kale and citrus among them. GreenFriends also encourages reusable water bottles and containers to cut down on waste, and has led tree-propagation and planting workshops for families.
