Chanting the 1,000 Names of the Divine Mother
The Sri Lalita Sahasranama (Archana) is a Sanskrit text of 1,000 verses that personify and honor the Divine Mother – the sacred feminine principle that guides, nourishes and protects us all. Amma feels it is beneficial to recite regularly. The 108 Names of Amma and the Sri Lalita Sahasranama are universal and may be recited by anyone; Amma assures us that even halting pronunciation brings great benefit when the names are said with sincerity and an open heart.
To have the greatest effect, say the names with devotion. Some people find it helpful to touch the centre of the chest as each verse is spoken, picture flowers of divine love opening within, and offer them at the Divine Mother's feet. Learning all 1,000 names can seem daunting – dividing them into small segments makes it achievable. An Archana book with English translation and phonetic transliteration, and a chanting CD, are available to help you learn, and the free Amma app carries the words for every chant on your phone.
