Amma graced Los Angeles with three days of programs as part of her decades of visiting the United States. She was welcomed to Los Angeles with a Certificate of Recognition from State Senator Ben Allen, honoring "your leadership and positive impact on communities around the world and in the State of California."
Central to the story is the historic Eagle's Lodge in Redondo Beach — one of the oldest buildings in the city — which many feared would be sold to a developer and torn down for condos. Instead it was lovingly restored by Amma as the home of MA Center LA, and its rich history preserved.
The city's mayor recalled that the senior citizens living across the street, at first curious about "who is this Amma," came to feel very lucky to have the MA Center as a neighbor. As he put it: "Amma's message of community service, being in harmony with nature, and showing compassion for your fellow people has helped to transform us."
