On Saturdays the MA Center community comes together for service projects around the property and to connect informally with old and new friends. Saturday evenings are dedicated to the Satsang program — an opportunity for spiritual reflection and a great way to stay connected to Amma throughout the year.
“Satsang” is a Sanskrit word meaning a spiritual discourse or sacred gathering — a coming-together of people seeking to deepen their spirituality through chanting, meditation, devotional singing, and spiritual talks rooted in the teachings of an enlightened master.
Typical Saturday Satsang Program (5:30–8:00 p.m.)
- Group chanting — 108 names of Amma
- Satsang talk — by a senior disciple of Amma or someone from the community
- Bhajans (devotional songs), ending with arati
- Prasad distribution
- Dinner, pre-ordered from the Food From Home meal service
A prayer list is offered every Saturday before arati, for the community to come together in silent prayer for loved ones undergoing hardship or illness — submit names by 7:00 p.m. Friday. See the Events page for Saturday programs and festival-day specials.
Seva
With nearly 180 acres, the property always needs care — the orchards and gardens offer a great opportunity to spend the day outdoors, and teams maintain Amrita Hall, run the Amma Shop, and help with construction projects. The Amma Shop
Best known as an online store, The Amma Shop has its headquarters and home store at MA Center San Ramon. On Saturday nights you can browse books, music, Ayurvedic products, clothes, prayer shawls, incense and jewelry. Run entirely by volunteers, the shop is open during the evening program; proceeds support Embracing the World, Amma’s charitable projects.
The GreenFriends Farm Shop
Order fresh organic fruit from the GreenFriends Farm store for Saturday pick-up, or buy the latest seasonal harvest at the Farm Stand on Saturday evenings.
