In India, a monthly birthday is traditionally observed by the nakshatra — the star constellation the moon was passing through at the time of birth. Amma's birth star is Karthika, and the Karthika of the Malayalam month of Kanni (mid-September to mid-October), the one closest to her date of birth, is celebrated as her star birthday: Amrita Karthika.
To honor the day, a special program will be held in the Main House Puja Room on Wednesday, September 30, from 6:30 p.m.: a meditative Karthika Manasa (mental) Puja that includes Amma's 108 names, bhajans, arati and closing prayers, followed by prasad.
