Writing to those in need of reassurance. Amma inspires our Michigan family of volunteers to write letters and cards of encouragement to those in need. Letters, sent by regular mail with love, are received by someone elderly, ill, isolated, grieving — or by one who just needs some encouragement and support. A compassionate letter is tangible and reassuring and can mean so much to the recipient. This simple, kind form of service can be done from home, and is a great way to involve children too, with their bright drawings and natural expressions of joy.

Circle of Love Inside
A very special form of letter writing to inmates in prison. Due to the challenging nature of their living circumstances, writers try to support, in words, whatever may help this person feel cared about and lifted. We don’t try to convert anyone — but we have found that through this exchange, both the letter writer and the inmate open to the greater good within their own selves and lives. One longtime Michigan letter writer said, “It’s hard to put into words just how transformative this experience has been.” Another shared, “Writing to inmates has broken my heart open.”
