Amma's New Year's Message

For the New Year, Amma shared a message with her children — a gentle reminder to meet life's changing seasons with equanimity and an open heart.

"Ups and downs are the very nature of life. Spirituality is the science that teaches us to happily accept everything."

— Amma

Amma encourages us to see difficulties not as sources of despair, but as stepping stones to growth — and to practice compassion and kindness as expressions of our fundamental unity with all beings. May the year ahead be one of awareness, acceptance and love.

When Amma visited Barcelona this November, she was presented with an award from the Spanish NGO “Corazón Solidario” (A Caring Heart). The organization identifies and honors one person each year for their humanitarian work as an exceptional human being. This year, Corazón Solidario honored our beloved Amma for her life of service to others and her humanitarian work that helps millions of people all over the world. The president of the NGO, Emilio Álvarez, handed this Award to Amma.

Burrito Project at M.A.Center, LA

Our Accomplishments

It was in March 2014, two months after the MA Center LA opening, that a few sevites gathered at MA Center LA’s new commercial kitchen to make 50 burritos for the needy. This pilot project was launched because devotees were moved by recent articles documenting that Los Angeles has the largest chronic homeless population and the most children with food insecurity in the country. Devotees decided to honor Amma’s gift of a new kitchen by starting a new Mother’s Kitchen project to serve the needy. And so the Burrito Project was born.

AYUDH in UN Youth Forum

Five AYUDH Americas members attended a youth forum at the United Nations on February 1-2, 2016. The forum was led by the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and held within the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The conference’s seating arrangement interspersed country representatives with youth delegates; this setup enabled participants to discuss ideas to implement the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030, particularly those targeted to youth. The AYUDH members served as representatives of AYUDH and M.A. Math at the forum.
