The Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MAM) provided relief to families struck by severe floods in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Roughly 8,800 households across 12 affected villages received clothes and food supplies during their recovery, each family given a package of clothes, rice, and groceries.
Heavy rains on December 17–18 caused widespread flooding across the southern districts of Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Kanniyakumari, claiming at least 35 lives and prompting nearly 49,707 rescues. More than 183,000 hectares of crops were damaged, along with thousands of homes and livestock.
Four distribution hubs were set up — at Thoothukudi Amrita Vidyalayam, Sri Vaikundam, Bharat Ratna Kamarajar School, and Chandy ITI School — to coordinate the effort, which reached communities including Srivaikundam, Ayyanar Colony, Rajeev Nagar, and Anna Nagar.
