Amrita University has secured a place in the world’s Top 50 in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, which measure universities against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With an overall global rank of 41, Amrita is India’s highest-ranked university for SDG impact — its fifth consecutive year as the country’s number one institution, and a leap from the world’s top 100 into the top 50.
Amrita earned outstanding marks across individual goals, ranking 5th globally for Quality Education (SDG 4), 6th for Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), and 14th for Gender Equality (SDG 5). This year’s rankings were the most competitive yet, drawing more than 2,540 universities from 130 countries, with India the most represented nation at 148 institutions.

Much of the result flows from Amrita’s flagship Live-in-Labs® program, in which students live and work in rural villages. Since 2013 it has delivered more than 150 real-world projects across 25 Indian states, touching over one million lives.
